Dragonwilds Farming Guide: Crops, Plots & XP

Start and level Farming in Dragonwilds with the right plots, water, compost, plant cure, crop cycles, skill spells, and tree milestones.

Farming turns seeds gathered across Ashenfall into a renewable supply of food, herbs, fibres, and specialist ingredients. The efficient loop is simple: match the seed to an appropriate plot, till the soil, water the crop, add compost when the yield matters, cure disease, then harvest and replant.

The skill arrived with Fellhollow but begins in earlier regions, so a new character can start collecting seeds before completing the Fellhollow questline.

How to start Farming

Seeds come from gathering naturally growing produce and from enemy packs. Keep them instead of consuming or discarding every early plant drop. Build a small farm near your food and storage area, then prepare the four core tools:

  • Shovel: tills plots and handles planting work.
  • Watering Can: collects river water and waters crops.
  • Compost Bucket: applies compost to improve yield.
  • Secateurs: supports crop care and harvesting tasks.

Farming tool upgrades follow material progression rather than only Farming level. Improve the shovel and watering can as your crafting tiers advance, then keep them in dedicated farm storage so they do not disappear into expedition chests.

Which Farming plot should you use?

The plot should match the origin and tier shown by the seed. Jagex's original system launched with Ash, Oak, and Willow planters; later progression includes Yew farming pieces. The live seed tooltip is the safest authority when a new update adds a crop.

Using the intended plot improves disease resistance. A higher material name is not automatically better for every seed. Build several matching plots rather than replacing every planter with the newest wood tier.

Water, disease, and compost

Watering crops

Fill a Watering Can from a river to collect dirty water for plants. Water Barrels can hold either clean or dirty water; the first type added defines the barrel, and the two cannot be mixed. Wells and Raincatcher Barrels provide clean water, while river-filled cans supply dirty water suitable for the farm.

Crops advance over several in-game days, with visible growth changes when the character wakes. A compact farm next to a bed and water store makes each morning check quick.

Preventing and curing disease

Water reduces disease risk, while the matching plot adds resistance. If a plant becomes diseased, use Plant Cure. The official Farming introduction describes Plant Cure as a combination of animal bones and weeds, making both worth saving near the farm.

Do not leave disease management until every plot is affected. Walk the rows after waking, treat problems, then harvest healthy crops before reorganising storage.

Using compost

Compost increases yield, including the chance of recovering seeds. Farming level also improves seed recovery passively. The Compost Bin accepts a wide range of organic inputs, including plants, meat, fish, cooked or burned food, and weeds.

Reserve compost for crops where extra produce or seed recovery advances another goal. It is less useful to spend all available compost on a crop already overflowing in storage while a scarce herb blocks food or potion production.

Farming skill spells

Uproot

Uproot uses magical energy to uproot plants in an area, including plots and overworld plants. Its upgrade expands the radius. Use it when clearing a planned group; avoid casting casually around a carefully maintained mixed farm.

Humidify

Humidify creates a moving raincloud that waters plots in its path. Its upgraded form also cures plants it touches. Long, straight rows make the spell easier to use efficiently than scattered decorative plots.

Maintain a Runecrafting reserve for Farming spells instead of taking the last combat runes from the expedition chest. The Magic and runes guide provides a simple supply system.

Level 20 tree Farming

At Farming level 20, tree planting becomes available outside ordinary plots. Oak and Willow saplings were introduced as growable trees rather than natural overworld spawns. Tree Farming provides renewable timber near the base and can shorten Woodcutting and Construction supply runs.

Place trees far enough from roofs, paths, and tightly packed stations that their full growth does not disrupt movement. A separate orchard or timber lane is easier to harvest than trees mixed through crop rows.

How to level Farming efficiently

The most useful training method is a farm you can maintain consistently:

  1. Build enough plots to harvest during every base visit without creating a maintenance burden.
  2. Plant crops that feed Cooking, potions, textiles, or current quests.
  3. Water, compost valuable crops, and check disease after sleeping.
  4. Harvest and replant immediately so plots never sit empty.
  5. Stagger crop groups if one large harvest overloads storage or seed supply.
  6. Add tree planting after level 20 to combine Farming and Woodcutting value.
  7. Use Humidify across aligned rows once its rune cost saves meaningful time.

Grinding the largest possible field is not automatically fastest. If watering and disease checks consume the whole day, reduce the plot count until every cycle is completed reliably. Useful produce also trains Cooking and supports longer combat sessions, so account-wide progress matters more than an isolated XP number.

Efficient farm layout

Place crop rows between the water store and ingredient storage. Keep the Compost Bin and Plant Cure materials on the same side so the daily route does not cross the entire base. Leave a straight lane for Humidify and a separate edge for tree planting.

A compact production order is:

  1. bed or return point;
  2. Water Barrels and Watering Can storage;
  3. aligned crop plots;
  4. compost and cure supplies;
  5. harvest storage;
  6. cooking and processing stations;
  7. trees beyond the main path.
