Dragonwilds Spells List & Unlock Guide

Find Dragonwilds combat and skill spells by skill tree, learn key unlock levels, rune requirements, and the best spell-wheel choices for each activity.

Last updated: 2026-08-25

Magic in Dragonwilds is not limited to a mage build. Skill spells speed up Mining, Woodcutting, Construction, Cooking, Farming, Fishing, travel, and melee combat. Most unlock through the associated skill tree, then consume runes or require the correct tool when cast.

Open the Skills menu with K to verify current unlock milestones. Open the Spellbook with P, drag learned spells to the wheel, and use Q to open that wheel on the default keyboard controls.

The exact live skill tree is authoritative. Several trees have changed since launch: Windstep moved from Runecrafting to Agility, new skills added new spells, and Jagex continues filling level 1–99 progression.

Attack skill spells

Tempest Shield

Tempest Shield is a defensive choice for a melee build facing groups or uncertain attack patterns. It creates breathing room and belongs on the wheel when survival matters more than another damage option.

Enchant Weapon: Fire

The Fire enchant supports burning pressure and critical-hit synergy. Use it when the target stays engaged long enough for Fire buildup to matter. Confirm its current duration and rune cost in the Spellbook before a boss run.

Enchant Weapon: Air

The Air enchant supports attack tempo. Faster actions are valuable only if stamina and positioning remain controlled; do not turn the buff into permission to exhaust the stamina bar.

Mining spells

Rocksplosion

Rocksplosion harvests a group of viable rocks or ore nodes. It still respects tool progression: carry a pickaxe capable of working the target material. Save the cast for clusters rather than one isolated boulder.

Detect Ore + Clay

Use detection before committing to a long search through cliffs, mines, or desert terrain. The spell is most valuable when it converts wandering time into a dense Rocksplosion route.

Woodcutting spells

Axtral Projection

Line up several trees, carry the correct logging axe, and project through the group. Tree placement and angle determine value. Version 0.12.1 corrected unintended stump destruction and XP behaviour, so avoid older levelling advice based on the bugged damage values.

Splinter

Splinter turns felled trunks into collectible sections and works best as the second half of a planned logging sequence. Group trees, project the axe, then process the resulting trunks efficiently.

Artisan and Construction spells

Bark to Bones

This is a conversion tool for moments when bones block crafting or quest progression. Compare the rune and wood cost with a normal hunting route before casting repeatedly.

Superheat

Cast Superheat on a busy fire-based production station. Batch enough inputs first so the speed benefit remains active on real work rather than an almost-empty queue.

Magical Mending

Magical Mending can save an expedition when an important tool or weapon is close to breaking. It is a safety option, not a reason to leave base with damaged equipment.

Eye of Oculus

Eye of Oculus helps inspect and place structures from a better building perspective. Use it for roofs, tall walls, alignment, and difficult interior details.

Summon Shelter

Summon Shelter supports rest and recovery away from the main base. It is useful during long regional exploration, but it does not replace water, food, or hazard protection.

Personal Chest

Personal Chest provides remote storage access and is one of the strongest expedition utility spells. Plan what belongs in personal storage so the spell opens a useful resupply instead of an unorganised container.

Cooking, Farming, and Fishing spells

Internal Alchemy and Bones to Peaches

Internal Alchemy clears food and drink effects when the active buff blocks a better meal. Bones to Peaches converts a limited stack of nearby bones into immediate food, providing field healing after combat.

Uproot, Humidify, and Rapid Growth

Farming introduced spells for harvesting, watering, curing, and accelerating crop work. Use Uproot on a meaningful group, aim Humidify through several plots, and reserve Rapid Growth for crops whose faster completion solves a real ingredient shortage.

Fishing Frenzy, Infernal Rod, and Fishnado

Fishing's spells improve catching and provide magical alternatives to ordinary rod or net loops. Their rune cost is justified at productive spots and for valuable catches, not automatically at every pool. The Fishing guide covers the progression from the starter net to later spells.

Agility spells

Windstep

Windstep now belongs to Agility. It extends movement and later gains an upgraded landing effect. Keep it in a consistent wheel slot so a traversal input does not become a menu search at the edge of a gap.

Recall

Recall places a runic marker, then returns the player to it on recast. It can support short gathering trips, dangerous retrievals, and fall recovery. The tether is consumed when it saves the character from a lethal fall, so treat it as a planned safety line.

Best spell wheel layouts

Gathering wheel

  • relevant detection spell;
  • Rocksplosion or Axtral Projection;
  • Magical Mending;
  • Windstep or Recall;
  • one emergency defensive option.

Boss wheel

  • primary enchant or combat support;
  • Tempest Shield or control spell;
  • movement or escape;
  • recovery utility;
  • only spells backed by a full rune reserve.

Base and Farming wheel

  • Eye of Oculus;
  • Superheat;
  • Uproot;
  • Humidify;
  • Rapid Growth or Personal Chest.

Do not fill the wheel with every learned spell. A stable layout is faster under pressure and makes rune planning predictable.

Rune planning

  1. Read every selected spell's live cost.
  2. Reserve combat runes separately from skilling runes.
  3. Carry enough for the planned loop plus an emergency cast.
  4. Restock immediately after returning.
  5. Remove a spell from the wheel when its required runes are deliberately left at base.
